My partner and I own a plant nursery here in Oakland, California called Kassenhoff Growers. After years of closely observing and intimately sharing my space with plants I felt moved to try to express their complexity on paper. I chose watercolors because the transparency and flexibility of the medium reflects the transience and light so prevalent in nature.

My mother is a painter and musician. My father was a science educator who instilled in me great curiosity and the ability to observe. I grew up in Vancouver, B.C. in a large household full of art, music and plants. My previous job was as a graphic designer. I love to combine my paintings with other graphic design elements. I am currently exploring my Dutch heritage and trying my hand at the still life. The adventure continues . . .

It is my pleasure to share my paintings with you.

Helen Krayenhoff.
